Hosanna means save now, we appeal to you! Help Now! Give us help from trouble! address our situation; our grievances and move us from pity to party.
Hosanna in the highest is a recognition of, praise, worship and call to the highest authority for redress, similar to going to the Supreme Court or an all powerful international court with unrivalled power.
In Matthew 21:1-11, Jesus while on the mount of Olives had a need for donkeys that would take Him into Jerusalem. He knew how the need will be met and sent two of his disciples into the city to bring the donkeys. His need was fulfilled in an amazing way. He enjoyed divine favour. As he rode into Jerusalem, the people were shouting 'Hosanna to the son of David, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the Highest'. What are the implications of these?
• Your God is mounted high – Your God is higher than any situation you are facing. He is higher than the Highest (Ecclesiastes 5:8). He was on the mount of Olives and saw the solution to his problem and indeed that of all humanity. Isaiah stated he is high and lifted up (Isaiah 6:8). He sees the solution to your need and will guide you.
• He can fulfil every need – His need was fulfilled, giving you an assurance that your needs will be fulfilled, because He will meet all your need according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19) and before you call, may He answer, in Jesus mighty name!( Isaiah 65:24)
• You will fulfil God’s appointed purpose – Jesus rode on the donkey, fulfilling prophecies given hundreds of years before. You will fulfil God's purpose for your life. For it is God who is working in you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)
• Your life will give glory to God – The movement of Jesus into Jerusalem gave glory to God, brought rejoicing into lives, families and the nation. May your life give praise to God, be an answer to prayers and provide solutions to multitudes in Jesus mighty name (1 Peter 2:9, Psalm 126:2-3)
• People will ask ‘who is this?’ – People are awaiting your manifestation as a child of the most High God. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, people had been waiting and they started crying out at the top of their voices. People are waiting for you (Romans 8:19).
• People will answer on your behalf – Jesus did not have to answer the question about who he was. The multitudes answered on His behalf. People will answer on your behalf. When King Saul needed someone to play music to him, David was recommended. The recommendation was 6-fold for a one point job description, and David was awarded the position. May you be recommended. In Mark 10:46-52, those who tried to silence 'blind Bartimaeus' where the ones who finally acted as go between Bartimaeus and Jesus. Note:
i. He refused to keep quiet or settle for less. He kept on calling on Jesus.
ii. Jesus heard him and stopped. May Jesus hear you and attend to you! The creator of the whole world, stood still to attend to him.
iii. When Jesus called him to come, those who had told him to keep quiet were the ones who went to call him and helped bring him to Jesus. Your detractors will be turned to your helpers.
iv. When he stood up, Bartimaeus threw away his coat, an emblem of begging, blindness, reproach, shame and stagnancy.
v. Jesus healed him and from that day, no one could call him 'blind Bartimaeus ' anymore. Those who describe you with your problems will be confounded and silenced, in Jesus name. A newness is coming.
As you praise Him in the Highest, may you be heard, fulfill His calling and purpose and may your life be a source of praise and glory to God.
To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. - 1 Peter 2:21
