The Progression - Faith

Prayers

1.       Father help me to make progress in life in the name of Jesus.

2.       I reject stagnancy and backwardness in every area of my life, family, academics, career, business, ministry and destiny in Jesus mighty name.

Text: Hebrews 11, Romans 5:1-5

Faith is Being Sure

1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The Faith of Abel, Enoch, Noah

4By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. 7By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Faith Brings Peace and Joy (Romans 5)

1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

What is the progression?

Progression has been defined as:

·         The process of developing or moving gradually towards a more advanced state.

·         The act of moving from one thing to another.

·         The act of moving forward

·         Proceeding in a course,

·         Onward motion

·         A step forward

·         Advancing

May the grace for positive beneficial progression come upon your lives in Jesus name.

What is faith?

Faith has been defined as:

·         strong belief or trust

·         loyalty to duty or to a person or thing

·         confidence or trust in a person or thing

Synonyms include belief, trust and confidence.

Faith is therefore: Trust in God’s unquestionable ability and capacity to perform which leads to attitudes and actions based on our understanding that God will surely perform His part.

May the grace for unwavering faith come upon your lives in Jesus name.

Progressive faith therefore is the trust in God expressed by attitudes and actions that produces advancement.

May progressive faith that produces advancement be your portion in Jesus mighty name.

Abraham is our father in the faith, and we can learn some things about his progressive faith to help deliver to us the faith that propels advancement.

In Romans 4 (AMP) the Bible says:

16Therefore, [inheriting] the promise depends entirely on faith [that is, confident trust in the unseen God], in order that it may be given as an act of grace [His unmerited favor and mercy], so that the promise will be [legally] guaranteed to all the descendants [of Abraham]--not only for those [Jewish believers] who keep the Law, but also for those [Gentile believers] who share the faith of Abraham, who is the [spiritual] father of us all-- 17(as it is written [in Scripture], “I HAVE MADE YOU A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS”) in the sight of Him in whom he believed, that is, God [c]who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist.

Therefore, Abraham is the father of all believers who have faith in Jesus Christ. That faith is an offshoot (a grant) of God’s grace.

In Hebrews 11, the Bible tells us more about the nature of this kind of faith:

Faithful Abraham

8By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

11By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she[d] bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised. 12Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.

God does things in stages, not because He cannot do everything together all at once, but progressively so we can cope, adapt and not be overwhelmed. God said to His people in Exodus 22 (AMP) that:

27I will send My terror ahead of you, and I will throw into confusion all the people among whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you [in flight]. 28I will send hornets ahead of you which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite before you. 29I will not drive them out before you in a single year, so that the land does not become desolate [due to lack of attention] and the [wild] animals of the field do not become too numerous for you. 30I will drive them out before you little by little, until you have increased and are strong enough to take possession of the land.

God knows what He is doing. That is one of the reasons why it is dangerous to murmur against God or become a complainant because God is not working with your timetable. God has the best timetable for reasons that will be beneficial to you and preserve you.

God made His children possess the land little by little, and was wiping out their enemies little by little, so the beasts of the land do not overwhelm them.

In the same vein, God is making you possess your land (your expectations, desires etc.) little by little, and is wiping out your enemies little by little, so the beasts of the land do not overwhelm you.

There are beasts in the land, spiritual and physical. Whether you know about them or see them is another issue. However, God is aware of them and is protecting you. That is why it is important to appreciate the little God has done and is doing instead of murmuring or complaining, so you can progressively move forward and obtain more and more.

Complaining and murmuring leads to destruction. That will not be your portion in Jesus name.

In Numbers 11:1 the Bible says:

And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:10 that:

And do not murmur (complain or grumble) [in unwarranted discontent], as some of them did—and were destroyed by the destroyer. First parenthesis mine.

In Philippians 2, the Bible says:

14Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

God expects us to walk with Him in progressive faith, allowing Him to hold your hands while you walk with Him. In Psalm 73, the Psalmist said:

22was so foolish and ignorant;
I was like a beast before You.
23Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You hold me by my right hand.
24You will guide me with Your counsel,
And afterward receive me to glory.

Allow God to hold you by the hand and lead you into glorious beneficial levels.

Abraham's faith was progressive.  He is our father in faith.

Our faith should also be progressive, ever increasing in grace, strength, accomplishment, and beneficial results.

Following God, leaving his dear relatives on God’s instruction, He worshipped God, built altars even when he did not see the immediate result of his prayers.

He sent Ishmael and his mom away as restitution and on God’s command.

He was willing to sacrifice Isaac his dear son, for whom He had waited for 25 years.

It is written that we can follow in the same amazing progressive faith steps of our father Abraham in Romans 4:

18Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: 20He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform22And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Abraham was fully persuaded (convinced beyond every reasonable and unreasonable doubt) that God was able to perform, had the capacity to perform and will perform what God has promised.

Has God promised you something and it has not come to pass or it seems it is not coming to pass? Trust God like Abraham, you will surely see your expectations. God will not disappoint you in Jesus name.
