Risen from the Dead: Newness of Life?

Prayers

1.    Father, by mercy, deliver Ukraine from aggression and war, fight for Ukraine in your mercy in the name of Jesus.

2.   Father, renew my life according to your will by the power in the blood of Jesus.

3.   Lord of Hosts, let there be a separation between me and forces that are holding me down from rising gloriously in the name of Jesus.

It is my prayer that:

May you receive the power to live a life pleasing to God by the resurrection power in the blood of Jesus in the name of Jesus.

Texts:

1 Peter 3:18

For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit,

Luke 5:31-32

31Jesus answered, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Romans 6:4

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Questions to ponder on.

·       Has the coming of Jesus impacted your life in any way?

·       Has the death, burial and resurrection of Christ impacted your relationship with God, your attitude and relationship with others?

·       Has the coming of Jesus changed the path you are travelling on? From the way of death to the way of life?

·       What is new in your life?

The core reason why Jesus died and rose again from the dead is to:

Deliver you and I from the looming punishment of sin. We all died in sin due to Adam’s sin. We were destined for judgment of God on sin, which is death, eternal separation from God. Jesus took our place in bearing the punishment from God on sin, by dying our death on the cross of calvary. We have been delivered from death and the punishment of death when we accept that Jesus died for our sins.

Bring you into newness of life. Having been delivered from the wrath of God on sin, we should no longer live after our previous sinful nature but in newness of life. New means it is marvel, different, unusual, better, unique.

What does this new life entail?

Some testimonies:

1.     From drunkenness to pastor

2.     From drunkenness and addiction to freedom

3.     From waywardness and promiscuity to modest dressing and new life

What does this new life entail?

Living for God (1 Peter 4)

1.     Make up your mind to do away with sin.

1So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you have suffered physically for Christ, you have finished with sin.

Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh [and died for us], arm yourselves [like warriors] with the same purpose [being willing to suffer for doing what is right and pleasing God], because whoever has suffered in the flesh [being like-minded with Christ] is done with [intentional] sin [having stopped pleasing the world] (AMP),

This involves not focusing on pleasing the world – the satanic system which is fueled by the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.

2.     Be focused on chasing the desire of God for your life, not just your fleshly desires 2You won’t spend the rest of your lives chasing your own desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God. 3You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols.

4Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you. 5But remember that they will have to face God, who stands ready to judge everyone, both the living and the dead. 6That is why the Good News was preached to those who are now deadb—so although they were destined to die like all people,c they now live forever with God in the Spirit.d

3.     Remember that the present world is not all there is to it.

7The end of the world is coming soon.

A better world is ahead. A longer world – eternal in nature is ahead, a peaceful world is ahead, a joyous world is ahead. This present world will not last forever. The God who promised this is the one who destroyed the earth with water during Noah’s flood.

4.     Watch and pray in a disciplined manner as soldiers of Christ.

Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.

5.     Show genuine love for yourself and others.

8Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.

This includes forgiving others.

6.     Use your spiritual gifts for the benefit of others

10God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

7.     Put On the New Self (Colossians 3)

1Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. 3For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is our life, [a]appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

5So put to death and deprive of power the evil longings of your earthly body [with its sensual, self-centered instincts] immorality, impurity, sinful passion, evil desire, and greed, which is [a kind of] idolatry [because it replaces your devotion to God]. 6Because of these [sinful] things the [divine] wrath of God is coming [b]on the sons of disobedience [those who fail to listen and who routinely and obstinately disregard God’s precepts], 7and in these [sinful things] you also once walked, when you were habitually living in them [without the knowledge of Christ]. 8But now rid yourselves [completely] of all these things: anger, rage, malice, slander, and obscene (abusive, filthy, vulgar) language from your mouth. 9Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old self with its evil practices, 10and have put on the new [spiritual] self who is being continually renewed in true knowledge in the image of Him who created the new self-11a renewal in which there is no [distinction between] Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, [nor between nations whether] [c]barbarian or [d]Scythian, [nor in status whether] slave or free, but Christ is all, and in all [so believers are equal in Christ, without distinction].

12So, as God’s own chosen people, who are holy [set apart, sanctified for His purpose] and well-beloved [by God Himself], put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience [which has the power to endure whatever injustice or unpleasantness comes, with good temper]; 13bearing graciously with one another, and willingly forgiving each other if one has a cause for complaint against another; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so should you forgive. 14Beyond all these things put on and wrap yourselves in [unselfish] love, which is the perfect bond of unity [for everything is bound together in agreement when each one seeks the best for others]. 15Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always]. 16Let the [spoken] word of Christ have its home within you [dwelling in your heart and mind--permeating every aspect of your being] as you teach [spiritual things] and admonish and train one another with all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
