Text: Ephesians 1:1-7

Paul's Greeting

1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Spiritual Blessings

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Background

What was the nature of the environment of the Saints at Ephesus? See Revelation 2:

1“To the angel of the church of Ephesus write,

‘These things says He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands: 2“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; 3and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. 6But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

7“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” ’

They were faced with evil people

They were being deceived by false apostles

They were contending with liars

Does this seem like what we contend with today?

Yet, they were laboring, patient, testing claims of those bringing any message to them, hence were able to detect false prophets and liars. They could not bear (accept, fellowship with) those who are evil. They also hated the doctrine of the Nicolaitans –

-        Nicolaitanism is the subjugation of the assembly or "the laity" by a hierarchical order who lord it over the assembly of God's people as if it were their own possession.

-        They lead lives of unrestrained indulgence as teaching to practice adultery, and to eat things sacrificed to idols.

They remained Faithful in Christ Jesus, as stated in 1 Corinthians 4:2 that: Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

As you do these:

Grace, the enablement to be something and someone in Christ, fulfill purpose and make an impact in your world comes upon your life.

Peace is made available, tranquility, inner peace, no matter what is going on around you.

May these be made available to you by the mercy, love, and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ in the name of Jesus.

What does Redemption in Jesus mean?

1.     The name of the Lord being blessed and Him being glorified in all that pertains to you.

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

May God be glorified in all aspects of your life in Jesus name.

2.     Being blessed (conferred) with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, including being seated with Jesus Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), being given power over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19), equipped with mighty weapons (2 Corinthians 10:3-4), healing (1 Peter 2:24), provision (Philippians 4:19) etc.

May all the spiritual blessings in heavenly places manifest in your life, family, ministry and destiny in the name of Jesus.

3.     Being chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world

4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Also refer to John 15:16 - Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Pray:

Father let me always abide in your love and be blameless before you in the name of Jesus.

Father, help me to win souls into your kingdom and let those souls abide in you till the end in Jesus’ name.

Lord, answer all my prayers speedily and meet all my needs beyond my expectations in the name of Jesus.

May God do exceedingly abundantly beyond your requests and expectations in Jesus’ name.

4.     Being predestined as a child of God, to please God

5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Pray: Father, let my life please you in all my ways in Jesus’ name.

May your life, family, and destiny please God, now and in eternity in Jesus name.

5.     That God’s name will be praised in your life, the glory of His grace being exalted.

6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Pray: Father, let me never be put to shame, do not let me put your name to shame in the name of Jesus.

May you never be put to shame in the name of Jesus, may you not put the name of God to shame and may God’s name always be praised in your life in Jesus name.

6.     Acceptance as a member of the beloved saints ordained to eternal life (Acts 13:48)

May your ordination to eternal life and acceptance as the beloved of God never fail in the name of Jesus.

7.     Being redeemed (bought back, paid for, granted enablement) by the blood of Jesus into a new and better life.

 7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

May your redemption by the blood of Jesus always speak for you, now and into eternity in the name of Jesus.

8.     Being forgiven and receiving forgiveness of sins.

May you never lose the mercy of God and forgiveness of sins that you have received in the name of Jesus. (Matthew 18: 21-35, Hebrews 10:26)

9.     Movement away from lack to enough and more than enough (Philippians 4:19)

Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah (Psalm 68:19)

May you never miss your daily load of heavenly and earthly benefits in the name of Jesus.

May these be your portion, now and always in the name of Jesus.

Prayer

Benefits and victories of redemption in Christ Jesus, come upon my life and destiny in Jesus’ name.
