Text:

Exodus 2:1-10

Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket[a] for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. 4 His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.

5 Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said.

7 Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?”

8 “Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. 10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses,[b] saying, “I drew him out of the water.”

Proverbs 31:10-31

Congratulations!!! Happy Mother’s Day!

We thank God for all mothers, all women, those with biological children and those without biological children. Our thoughts and prayers are also with mothers who have lost children and their children are not with them today.

We pray that God in His own supernatural way will comfort them with the comfort only He can give in Jesus mighty name.

Today, we will be praying for mothers and we pray that the most-High God will continue to strengthen them and give them peace.

May God resolve and bring an end to whatever has been troubling their hearts and giving them pain in Jesus mighty name.

Before we pray, we want to see a few qualities from the life of the mother of Moses. She typifies unrelenting love…a mother’s love.

What can we learn from the life of this virtuous woman?

1.     She is a woman of faith: Against all odds she followed the leading of God, kept her baby by God’s revelation and instruction. She and her family made the honor roll of the heroes of faith. In Hebrews 11:23, the Bible states:

By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

2.     She was obedient: she listened to God and followed Gods instructions to keep the child for some time (Romans 10:17). She followed the steps provided by God for making an ark similar to Noah’s ark. Note that Moses later constructed an ark for God’s instructions.

3.     Risked her life: She kept the baby in disobedience to Pharoah's instructions to kill every make child.  To be found would likely result in death. Babies usually cry a lot at that age, yet she put her life on the line to preserve the life of her child...the caring mother...unrelenting love.

4.     God raised helpers for her: To support her, the midwives Pharaoh had instructed to kill newborn babies did not squeal on her.  Her daughter Mariam also assisted her in monitoring the ark containing the baby and God used her to suggest that Jochebed should take care of the baby.

5.     She received favor: Pharaohs daughter favored baby Moses (Proverbs 21:1)

6.     She was rewarded: Pharaohs’ daughter was used by God to reward Moses’ mother by paying her to take care of Moses. This was something she would have gladly done without payment. May God connect you with rulers, the high and mighty who will be used to richly reward you in Jesus name.

The woman’s name is Jochebed according to Numbers 26:59

and Amram’s wife was named Jochebed. She also was a descendant of Levi, born among the Levites in the land of Egypt. Amram and Jochebed became the parents of Aaron, Moses, and their sister, Miriam.

Additional Qualities are Observed in Proverbs 31:10-31:
