King David - From Herdsman to Kingship

Prayers:

1.    Give thanks and praises to the Most-High God, the creator of the heavens and the earth.

2.    Lord of Hosts, move me forward to where I should be to glorify your name in the name of Jesus.

3.    Father, let my promotion and expansion of coasts appear by fire in the name of Jesus.

Text: 1 Samuel 16

Who is a herdsman?

·       A person who takes care of a large group of animals of the same type

·       The owner or keeper of a herd or of herds; one employed in tending herd of cattle.

·       Someone who drives a herd - leads, guides, nourishes, defends, nurtures, feeds, waters the herd.

·       They have natural caring attitude.

·       They do not have the nature of thieves, an uncaring attitude (John 10:1-5).

·       They have the nature of servants, like our Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 22:27).

It is a good thing to have the servant-like mind of our Lord Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:5-11).

As you have develop this nature, have this mind and nature of our Lord – Jesus Christ, the nature and attitude that promotes from the forest to the palace, note that:

1.    God cares about Herdsmen. God cared about David, even though his father and brothers did not consider bringing him forward to be considered for kingship. God cares about you even when those you care about and are laboring for do not care. David was in the forests to ensure that herd produces what will take care of his parents and siblings, but they did not care about him, but God cared. Don’t worry, continue in your faithful service, God cares about you and will settle you.

2. God cares about you in your lowly position: Your position today may be a lowly one, God sees you and can promote you and will promote you. God cared for David in His lowly position and deposed the powers that was sitting on his seat of promotion.

May powers seating on your seat of promotion be deposed and you will ascend higher and sit on your seat of honor, lifting and wealth in the name of Jesus.

3. God reveals Himself to Herdsmen at the birth of Jesus. God does not look at people after the order of how men judge and assess. Shepherds were regarded as lowly people, untrustworthy people in the Biblical times that their testimony would not even be accepted in court. However, God revealed Himself to them at the birth of Jesus in Luke 2:8-20.

May God reveal glorious eternal and earthly things to you in the name of Jesus.

4. God gives eternal messages to Herdsmen (Luke 2:8-20, 1 Chronicles 28:19).

May God give you eternal messages which will transform your world and the lives and livelihoods of people around you for good in the name of Jesus.

5. God gives them unique opportunities and sends them on glorious errands. The shepherds were sent to see the Lord Jesus Christ and proclaim the good news.

May God send you on glorious errands and may you listen and obey, which will enable you fulfil your destiny in the name of Jesus.

6. God remembers the forgotten, anoints them for greatness and makes them to sit with princes and kings. Psalm 113:7-8 says: 7 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; 8 That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

May God raise you out of every manner of dust, need, shame and lowliness and set you up to seat with the wealthy, honorable and powerful decision makers and make you wealthy, honorable and powerful in the mighty name of Jesus.

7. Brings from obscurity into the limelightGod did it for David, Jabesh and Daniel and may He do it for you in the name of Jesus.

8. Brings from lack into abundance.
David who was keeping sheep and interested in getting a tax waiver to avoid tax debts was later able to give millions of dollars towards building the temple. In 1 Chronicles 29, David gave:

·       $87,255,000 in gold

·       $13, 440,000 in silver

·       A total of $100,695,000

Not bad for a shepherd boy who was lifted up.

May God lift you up beyond your expectations in the name of Jesus.

9. God deposits the anointing for greatness into your life. He anointed David 3 times and made him sit in the palace.

May you receive your anointing of greatness now in the name of Jesus.

What should you do to move from the lowly position to your kingship position?

1.    Be committed to God as David was.

2.    Accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

3.    Be dutiful in what God has committed into your hands. Even though David had been anointed as King, it was not just the anointing that gave him an initial entrance into the palace it was skill. He was skillful in playing the harp and had several other qualities as well. He had 5 qualifications when 1 was requested and he got the role. Don’t settle for the mediocre, aim for the highest in your field or calling.

·       David was a cunning (skilful) player of the harp musical instrument.

·       He was a mighty valiant man.

·       A man of war.

·       A comely (common) approachable person, easy to relate with

·       Prudent in matters of business – able to handle what was committed to him without slacking off, would see matters to the end. Was not careless and was productive in what was committed to him, whether it was the sheep in the wilderness or being entrusted to take messages to his siblings at the war front, or take cheeses to the captain of the army his siblings were under – he would not eat the cheeses on the way or say the cheeses got lost.

·       The Lord was with him. Let the Lord be with you. Do not do things that would take the Lord far away from you, or make God be unable to help you.

4.    Be a committed worshipper of God.

5.    Be a prayerful warrior.
