The Power in the Name of the Lord of Hosts!
Prayers 1. Sing a song of praise and worship to God: Glorify His Holy Name 2. Father, help me to please you in all I do in the name of Jesus. 3. Lord of Hosts, arise and help me in the name of Jesus.
Text: Isaiah 52:3-6 3 For thus saith the Lord, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money. Significance of the Power in the name of the Lord God of Hosts 1. His name is a strong tower: The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. (Proverbs 18:10) May God always be your strong tower and place of refuge in Jesus. 2. His name is gracious and full of compassion Exodus 33:19: Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” · He is full of goodness, not ‘badness’. He will do you good and cause His goodness to come upon your life and family.
· He will be gracious to you
· He will have compassion on you.
3. The Lord is a man of war. The Lord of Hosts is His name (Exodus 15:3) 2 Samuel 5 May the Lord of Hosts fight your battles and defend you always in Jesus name.
4. His name brings and sustains mercy to generations Exodus 34: 5Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. 6And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” May His mercies abound for you and your generations in Jesus’ name.
5. The name of the Lord is more powerful than any other name. Philippians 2:5-11 5Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility], 6who, although He existed in the form and unchanging essence of God [as One with Him, possessing the fullness of all the divine attributes--the entire nature of deity], did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped or asserted [as if He did not already possess it, or was afraid of losing it]; 7but emptied Himself [without renouncing or diminishing His deity, but only temporarily giving up the outward expression of divine equality and His rightful dignity] by assuming the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men [He became completely human but was without sin, being fully God and fully man]. 8After He was found in [terms of His] outward appearance as a man [for a divinely-appointed time], He humbled Himself [still further] by becoming obedient [to the Father] to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9For this reason also [because He obeyed and so completely humbled Himself], God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus [b]EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW [in submission], of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and that every tongue will confess and openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord (sovereign God), to the glory of God the Father. May the powerful name of the Lord work for you and yours in the name of Jesus. 6. It is God’s strength and power that can make you will and do what pleases God. Therefore submit to His power and Lordship, walk with Him to fulfil His good pleasure in your life. It will be pleasing to God and to you. 13For it is [not your strength, but it is] [c]God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure. 7. His powerful name is great and worthy of great praise. He is our dependable Rock. Deuteronomy 32 (KJV) 3Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32 (BSB)
3For I will proclaim the name of the LORD. 4He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just. A God of faithfulness without injustice, righteous and upright is He.
May the great and powerful name of the Lord always avail for you and yours in Jesus. Notes What should you do to continually have the power in the name of the Lord of Hosts work for you? 1. Be born again
2. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling 12So then, my dear ones, just as you have always obeyed [my instructions with enthusiasm], not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ].
3. Don’t be a murmurer, grumbler or disputer 14Do everything without murmuring or questioning [the providence of God],
4. Stand out as a light reflecting Jesus in your world 15so that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and guileless, innocent and uncontaminated, children of God without blemish in the midst of a [morally] crooked and [spiritually] perverted generation, among whom you are seen as bright lights [beacons shining out clearly] in the world [of darkness],
5. Preach the Word at every opportunity you have 16holding out and offering to everyone the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to rejoice greatly because I did not run [my race] in vain nor labor without result.
Prayer: Father, let the name of the lord of Hosts vindicate, justify, and preserve me till the close of the age in the name of Jesus.
