Text: Luke 1:78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
What is Mercy? · compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one's power · a blessing that is an act of divine favor or compassion · a fortunate circumstance · compassionate treatment of those in distress · compassion and love
Dayspring also means: · Sunrise · Dawn · Morning light from heaven · Rising Sun · Rising from on high · Daybreak from on high It means heaven looking down on you in mercy and causing good and great things to arise for you. ü Where there had been darkness, there will be light ü Where there had been failures, there will be successes ü Where there was sickness, there will be sound health ü Where there was lack, there will be abundance, etc.
Because the Dayspring from on high has visited us in mercy.
The Dayspring can be commanded to arise for you: Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place; Command the Dayspring to arise for you in the above areas.
Note that: 1. God is the ultimate source of mercy 2. Moral mercy is derived and copied – as much as possible – from Divine mercy. 3. God’s mercy is ultimate and cannot be compared with other kinds of mercy. 4. Be merciful to obtain mercy. Jesus said: Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. (Matthew 5:7) 5. Forgive others and show them mercy to prevent your previously granted mercy, blessing and forgiveness of your sins and errors from being reversed and taken away from you (Matthew 18:21-34) 6. God chooses those He will have mercy on. 15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 16So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. (Romans 9:15-16) Compare Pharoah, Esau and Jacob. 7. God shows you mercy to demonstrate His mercy to others: But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. (1 Timothy 1:16) 8. Mercy comes from God the Father and Jesus Christ: Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. (2 John 1:3) 9. Mercy can be generational when you fear God. The Bible says in Luke 1:50 that And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation. Lack of mercy upon an individual, family, community and nation can also be generational when the fear of God is lacking. Prayers for mercy can break of lack of mercy and reinstitute mercy for present and future generations 10. The mercy of God will make you to be merry.
Where can mercy be found? At God’s mercy seat Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment]. (Hebrews 4:16)
2. Show mercy to others to also receive mercy. In James 2:23 the Bible says: There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you. For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; but [to the one who has shown mercy] mercy triumphs [victoriously] over judgment. (AMP)
