Hope through comfort

Prayers

1.    Father, by mercy, deliver Ukraine and the nations from aggression and war in the name of Jesus.

2.   Father, let your steadfast hope always be upon my life and family in the name of Jesus.

3.   Lord, comfort me always with the comfort that only you can give in the name of Jesus.

I pray that:

May God’s comfort always be upon your life in the name of Jesus.

May God’s enduring hope and comfort eliminate fear and distress from your life and ways in Jesus’ name.

Text: Romans 15:4

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (KJV)

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. (NKJV)

What is the meaning of Hope?

Hope has been defined as:

·      A feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen

·      A strong and confident expectation

·      Trusting and waiting expectantly

·      Assurance that God will fulfill His promises

Hope is an anchor of the soul. It prevents the soul from drifting away consciously or unconsciously from God:

17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;  (Hebrews 6)

Note:

·      We are saved by Hope. It is therefore dangerous not to have hope.

24For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? 25But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. (Romans 8)

o  Salvation comes through hope

o  Healing comes through hope.

When an individual is hopeless, then it becomes difficult to save a person with no hope.

May you not lack the hope that will secure your eternal salvation in Jesus’ name.

May the hope that delivers your healing and other good and great things to you be upon your life in the name of Jesus.

·      Hope is the object of faith. Our faith in God works because we are hoping for something.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

May your faith bring to you the things you hope for in the name of Jesus.

·      It does not matter what you have gone through, how your past has been, or what you are going through, there is hope for you.

“For there is hope for a tree, If it is cut down, that it will sprout again, And that its tender shoots will not cease. (Job 14:7)

You will yet rejoice; you will yet see brighter and better days. Your future will be glorious in Jesus’ mighty name.

·      The God of all comfort is also the God of Hope.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

May the God of hope always give you hope and sustain your hope in Jesus’ name.

May the God of all comfort always be there for you to comfort you in the name of Jesus.

·      Hope as a basis of faith, delivered a son to Abraham and made him the father of many nations.

16Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 17(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. 18Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: 20He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; (KJV)

18Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” 19And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb. (NLT)

·      There is eternal hope – laid up for you in heaven: This eternal hope is the eternal life awaiting you in heaven.

because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, (Colossians 1:5)

May you never miss eternal life in heaven in Jesus’ name.

·      This hope is the springboard and anchor of your faith in the now for the hereafter.

May your eternal hope not wane in the name of Jesus.

What is the meaning of Comfort?

Comfort has been defined as:

·      A state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraints

·      The easing or alleviation of a person's feelings of grief or distress

·      Encouragement

·      To console

·      To help

·      To give relief

·      To cheer up

·      To exhort, and

·      Not to fear

Comfort is God wrapping His hands of love around you, giving you hope to continue, prevail, shine, and obtain your eternal inheritance.

May you never lack the comfort that only God can give in the name of Jesus.

There is the:

·      Comfort of salvation

·      Comfort of peace

·      Comfort of joy

·      Comfort of deliverance

·      Comfort of healing

·      Comfort of breakthroughs

·      Comfort of a greater tomorrow

Note:

·      Without hope, people are miserable without the promise of a better day gloom, despair, and despondency sets in.

·      The Holy Spirit is the Comforter.

·      Jesus, the Rod, is a comforter (Psalm 23:4, John 1416).

·      He comforts us in all our tribulations, problems, afflictions, sorrow, losses, and failures so we receive the strength to carry on.

·      He empowers us to fight and become victorious where we had once failed.

·      Hope is the assurance that God will change things for good.

·      Faith delivers what we hope for into our hands.

·      Without hope, it is almost impossible to progress to love

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

·      Our hope is strengthened through comfort, and we receive hope through comfort.

·      It is a terrible thing not to have comfort, especially in the face of oppression. The preacher stated this in Ecclesiastes 4:

The Evil of Oppression

1Again I looked, and I considered all the oppression taking place under the sun. I saw the tears of the oppressed, and they had no comforter; the power lay in the hands of their oppressors, and there was no comforter. 2So I admired the dead, who had already died, above the living, who are still alive.

·      Human beings may be unable to comfort you where, how and to the degree you need to be comforted. Sometimes, instead of bringing comfort, some add to the pain and affliction of the person who needs to be comforted. Job experienced this as stated in Job 16:2

“I have heard many things like these; you are miserable comforters, all of you!

·      Our God is the God of All Comfort. There is no type of comfort that you need that He does not have.

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (2 Corinthians 1)

God is able to Comfort us adequately:

o  When deprived

o  When you have been cheated

o  When things are not going your way

o  When you have lost a loved one or something very precious

May you not lack the comfort you need in the name of Jesus.

·      God comforts the downcast, the discouraged. When you are comforted, comfort others as well.

·      His comfort in our afflictions preserves our souls through His faithful and enduring promises

This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me. (Psalm 119:50 KJV)

·      We receive comfort in our suffering through the agent of God’s promises.

My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. (Psalm 119:50 NIV)

·      If you are mourning for any reason, God will comfort you.

Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4)

·      Jesus came to comfort those who are mourning as prophesied by the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 61:

1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners, 2to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all who mourn, 3to console the mourners in Zion—to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.

·      God’s unfailing love, His steadfast love to you, guarantees your comfort as you abide in Him

Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant. (Psalm 119:76)

May God’s unfailing love, His steadfast love to you, guarantee your comfort as you abide in Him in the name of Jesus.

20You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, Shall revive me again, And bring me up again from the depths of the earth. 21You shall increase my greatness, And comfort me on every side. (Psalm 71)

Though you have seen several afflictions and troubles, God is going to raise you out of the dust, out of shame, out of disrespect, out of antagonism, out of waywardness, out of foundational problems (like Jabez), out of the afflictions, out of the way and path of death, God will raise your star from where it has been buried.

You will arise and shine again.

God will increase your greatness and give you all-around comfort in the name of Jesus.
