The King of Love – Peace
Prayers 1. Powers working against my peace, be scattered in the name of Jesus. 2. I move from agitation, anxiety, and distress to peace in the name of Jesus.
Text: Romans 14:17-18 17For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. 18For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. (KJV) 17for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18For he who in this way serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. (NASB) We have already gone over the concepts of King, Love and Joy (refer to January 2021 and last week’s messages), today we will be examining The King of Love and Peace, with an emphasis on Peace. Even though it is the second to the last to be mentioned in the verse, it has a foundational and fundamental place in the scheme of the kingdom makes it vital to consider peace second. As important as joy is, without peace it would be difficult to abide in joy. What is Peace? Peace has been defined as: · a state of tranquility or quiet: such as o freedom from civil disturbance o a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom · freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions · agreement and harmony among people · a state or period of mutual concord between governments · a state in which there is no war or fighting · an agreement to end a war · a period of time when there is no war or fighting · a quiet and calm state of mind May God deliver you and yours from anxiety, agitation, and distress in Jesus name. I command forces working against your peace to die in Jesus name. Today, God will establish your freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions by the power in the blood of Jesus. May God bring you and yours into a quiet and calm state of mind in the name of Jesus. Levels of Peace 1. Peace between God and Man Peace between God and man is the most fundamental kind of peace. Without this peace man continues to be in a state of discontent, feels incomplete and abides in a level of inner disquiet. Peace with God is enabled by reconciliation with God. Without this reconciliation, the inner disquiet continues. For some it continues till eternity when they end up in hell if they do not accept Jesus Christ as the Lord and savior of their lives. The Bible states in Romans 5: 1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Faith in Jesus Christ brings about peace with God because we are justified by faith. We are now reconciled to God as if we never sinned. Justification means just as if we never sinned. This access by faith into the grace of God brings joy in the hope of eternal glory which God has granted to us. This state of mind in reconciliation with God is a state of peace. This was why Jesus stated in John 14:27 that for those who believe in Him: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. (NLT)
Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.] (AMP) 2. Peace between Man and Man God’s love to us brings peace. Without inner peace, we are unable to live in peace with ourselves. If we are unable to live in peace with ourselves, we are unable to live in peace with others, because you cannot give what you don’t have. Once the peace of God is in your life, then you are able to live in peace with others. The Bible states in Hebrews 12:14, that we should: Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: (KJV) Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (NIV) However, peace with man does not mean keeping silent in the cases of abuse. Speak out! Remember what these notable individuals said: “The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.” – Nobel Laurette Wole Soyinka "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." - Martin Luther King Jnr. 3. Peace between God and satanic or adversarial forces
The most peaceful nations of the world are often the strongest nations. These have powers to stop aggression against them or defeat any aggression threatened or initiated against them. As it is in heaven, so it is on earth. Through the greatness of the power of God, God’s enemies have no choice than to be subject to God and be subservient (submissive, obedient, serve and are subordinate) to Him. The Bible states in Psalm 66:3 that Say to God, “How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You. God’s enemies cringe in fear before Him because of how great His power is. God is the author of peace and desires peace in His kingdom. However, Satan and his agents are not ready or willing to let peace reign. This is why to have peace: (i) God scatters his enemies Psalm 68:1-2a Let God arise, Let His enemies be scattered; Let those also who hate Him flee before Him. As smoke is driven away, So drive them away; (ii) God consumes His enemies with fire Psalm 68:2b As wax melts before the fire, So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. (iii) God’s angels fight and displaces the satanic and adversarial forces from heaven to maintain peace in heaven. The Bible states in Revelation 12:
7Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. 9And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him 4. Peace between man and satanic or adversarial powers
The Bible states in 1 Peter 5:8 – Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour (NLT). Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (KJV) Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. (AMP)
The enemy will not devour you and yours in Jesus name. This is why Jesus gave the believers power over the enemy. In Luke 10:19, the Bible says: Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (KJV) Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you. (AMP)
You will always prevail over your enemies in Jesus name God is the author of peace and instructs us to live in peace with others. However, there are some categories of entities, that no matter how you want to live in peace with them, they are not ready to live in peace with you. These are sworn, antagonistic and unrelenting enemies. The type that swears “over my dead body will this person make progress”, “I will see to it that this individual is destroyed”, “this person and his family must be wasted or destroyed”. These are the wicked, boastful Goliaths (1 Samuel chapter 17), the diabolically dangerous and destructive Haman (Esther chapters 2-10) and the oppressive Pharaoh (Exodus chapters 1-14). These spiritual entities will not be at peace with you, because they have only one agenda as stated in John 10:10, to steal, kill and/or destroy. God has to use and is still using His great power to restrain, defeat and scatter His enemies. You need to do likewise. The way to peace in this instance is to: (i) Barricade your life and the life of your loved ones with the blood of Jesus and Holy Ghost fire to shield you and yours from their attacks. (ii) Bind them (arrest, imprison these spiritual entities). (iii) Seize their weapons and recover what they have stolen from you and yours (Luke 11:21-23). (iv) Call for heavenly assistance to give you victory and defend you always (Daniel chapter 10, 2 Kings 6:13-23). Antecedents to abiding in Peace 1. Don’t be anxious, rather commit your issues and problems to God in faith with thanksgiving: Philippians 4: …6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.
2. Live in peace: Don’t be quarrelsome – 2 Corinthians 13:11 Finally, believers, rejoice! Be made complete [be what you should be], be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace [enjoy the spiritual well-being experienced by believers who walk closely with God]; and the God of love and peace [the source of lovingkindness] will be with you. Also refer to Hebrews 12:14.
3. Be a peacemaker to gain righteousness: - James 3:18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
4. Let the peace of God rule in your heart: Be guided by peace, not anxiety or impulses: - Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always].
Conclusion: May God fill you with joy and peace as you believe Him: Romans 15:13 - Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 - Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
