Father! Settle Me!
Prayers 1. Father, settle me today in the name of Jesus.
Text: 1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
Trouble which brings about suffering, pain, being downcast, discouraged, tears, wailing and sorrow is a universal entity and has no respect of persons. Trouble comes to the rich as well as to the poor, to the healthy and unhealthy, to those in poor countries and to those in wealthy nations. The type of trouble may differ, but everyone has gone through trouble, is going through trouble or will go through trouble. The Bible categorically states that man is born into trouble/affliction. 6Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground; 7Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward. (Job 5)
Some of the synonyms include difficulty, problem, worry, danger, mess, issues, bother, inconvenience, anxiety, distress, concern, disquiet, unease, irritation, vexation, annoyance, stress, agitation, harassment, unpleasantness, problem, misfortune, issue, trial, tribulation, trauma, adversity, hardship, burden, pain, suffering, affliction, torment, woe, grief, unhappiness, sadness, heartache, misery, or travail. These are not pleasant things. May God deliver you from every form of trouble in Jesus’ name.
The deliverer: God is the only one who can deliver from problems. He is the only one who can settle you. That is why tonight we will be crying out: Father, settle me. Remember: For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; (2 Corinthians 4:17 – KJV) For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]! (2 Corinthians 4:17 – AMP) For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Romans 8:18)
Why is God the deliverer? · Our God is all powerful (Job 25:2)
· There is nothing He cannot do. With God nothing is impossible (Matthew 19:26, Luke 1:37)
· He delivers and will yet deliver. In Acts 3, Jesus healed the lame man who was paralysed in his legs at the beautiful gate of the temple. In Luke 5 he healed the madman of Gadarenes. God through the name of Jesus not only delivers from sin (Matthew 1:21); He also delivers from afflictions.
· He controls the hosts in heaven and on earth (Exodus 15:3, Joshua 5:14-15)
Examples 1. God settled Jabez. In 1 Chronicles 4, the Bible states: 9And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. 10And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
The Jabez type of life: Things were not going well for Jabez, when others find it easy, it will be difficult for him. When others pass, he fails, when others are living in sound health, his health would be problematic. When others sleep well at night with sweet dreams, the Jabez type of life would have scary, depressing or destiny demoting dreams etc. At a point, Jabez must have been tired and cried out to God for a permanent separation between him and sorrow.
God will settle you tonight in Jesus’ name
Your points of pain and sorrow will be turned to points of joy in Jesus’ name
God will bless you indeed as you cry out to Him tonight
May God enlarge your coasts in Jesus’ name
May God’s hands be with you, working on your behalf, smoothening the way before you, fighting your battles in Jesus mighty name
